“Chronic low back pain is a very prevalent condition1 and it is associated with enormous health and socioeconomic costs.2 The prognosis of acute low back pain3 is initially favourable with reduction of pain and disability in the first six weeks. After this period, there is a slower improvement in symptoms for up to one year.3 Several treatments are available for people with chronic low back pain. These treatments include:

educational programs,4 medication,5, 6 and 7 electrophysical agents,8 manual therapy,9 exercises10 and others.11 Nevertheless, these treatments have, at best, a moderate effect, thus, more effective treatments are needed for low back pain.12 and 13 Kinesio Taping14 is a new method of treatment that is very popular in sports15 and it has also been proposed for people with low back pain.16 and 17 This technique makes use of elastic adhesive tape, which is applied to the patient’s skin under tension.14 The elastic tape that is used with Carnitine palmitoyltransferase II this technique can be extended up to 140% of its original length.14 The tape is thin and light, and made of 100% cotton fabric that is porous and does not restrict the range of motion. Two of the primary underlying causes of these and other chronic diseases in the United States are linked to behavioral and subsequent health risk factors (e.g., obesity and tobacco use that often begin in childhood) (Mokdad et al., 2004). In fact, approximately 18% of those aged 12–19 years in the United States are obese (Ogden & Carroll, 2010), and approximately 19% of high school students are current

smokers (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2013). In 2010, the US Department of Health and Human Services funded the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) project through CDC to accelerate community- and state-level policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) improvements that ultimately could to reduce the US economic burden of chronic disease by making healthy living easier (Bunnelll et al., 2012). The CPPW project addressed disparities in chronic diseases among racial and ethnic subpopulations, socioeconomic groups, and geographic settings. CDC awarded more than $400 million to 50 communities for a 2-year intervention period. In addition, evaluation was supported to examine the effectiveness of PSE improvements and to expand the evidence base. Importantly, the sensory and motor tests are also used to classify the type of spinal cord injury using the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS). The important feature of the AIS is its definitions of complete and incomplete SCI. An SCI is only classified as incomplete if there is some sensory or motor function in the S4/5 segments, ie, if a person has anal sensation or the ability to voluntarily contract the anal sphincter.
