“Right pulmonary artery-to-left atrial communication is a rare congenital vascular malformation that results in a right-to-left shunting. This report describes the case history of a neonate with a large right pulmonary artery-to-left atrial connection resulting in cyanosis and severe heart failure who underwent successful early catheter interventional therapy. In the neonate, this lesion can be diagnosed accurately using transthoracic echocardiography. Closure of the communication can be achieved even in infants via percutaneous interventional catheterization with a low procedure-related risk and a good midterm KU-57788 order follow-up result.”

“Total correction of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is typically performed within the first year of life. However, subsequently, right-ventricular dysfunction often progresses by pulmonary stenosis or regurgitation. Although most patients with corrected TOF require additional surgery for right-ventricular outflow tract, intervention could be an alternative to palliative surgery and associated morbidities, especially in children. We describe a palliative application of the self-expandable stent in a patient with pulmonary stenosis after total correction of TOF who lacked a conduit between the right ventricle and pulmonary LDK378 in vitro artery.”
“Severe left ventricular outflow obstruction often is associated with diastolic left ventricular myocardial dysfunction and tachycardia despite successful initial treatment. The authors have used esmolol to lower heart rate in this setting for successful weaning of patients from ventilation in postoperative recovery. Their limited experience supports the beneficial effect of continuous esmolol administration on infants with persistent tachycardia and severe left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in postoperative cardiac intensive care.
